Was looking today at lenses and came home with a canon 70-200 2.8L IS, wow alot of money for a lens, I still have to go out and take some pictures, I am sure its going to be great, it is a heavy lens.

Congratulations! That's a very good and popular lens. Yup, it's heavy. I can symphatize with you on that. I developed some new muscle fibers from carrying my gear around.
Congratulations! It's a great lense if a little heavy! I'm sure you'll enjoy taking photos with it. It produces some nice crisp shots.

Now I am thinking about selling my Tamron 18-200 on ebay ( had it a month ) and buying the Canon 28-105 f4L, that I have heard so much about on DPS. Any opinions?

hope you've been lifting weights! the 2.8 IS is a beast! great lens though. just make sure you'll actually use the IS. if you're going to use a tripod in lower light situations, the IS is useless.

I have had mine now for a couple of weeks. Wow! I love it. I haven't yet posted any images yet because I keep finding ways to make my pictures that much sharper. The auto focus is crazy fast compared to the lenses I had. I would recommend that you get a good tripod because the cheapos won't hold it.

What are you using to sharpen your pictures with Dan, Oh about the beast canon 70-200 2.8L IS, Was out today for awhile, it does get people to move out of your way, maybe they think its a bazooka, I love it, no comparison, sold on the L glass.

I love my 24-105L. I've posted about it previously in this thread (http://digital-photography-school.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1442). My recommendation would be to rent or borrow a copy to see if it fits your personal shooting style. I had to send mine back to Canon to be recalibrated for front-focusing. But it works great, now.
Myself? I just sprang for the 135L. It's so sweeeeeeet.... L glass. Worst addiction ever.

Thanks for the input, I'm going to be careful on my next choice, I am a Real Estate Broker and I take allot of pictures of houses, so I need a wide angle, the tamron maybe just fine for that and I already own it, But now I have that L glass addition and can't seem to shake it.
The 17-40mm L series is pretty good for wider shots. :)
And I can only dream of L lenses at the moment :)

The L glass is really good. I got to play with the 100-400mm L at the camera shop a coupla days ago, and the pictures are really sweet! The lens is also really heavy, but that comes from its really solid construction.
The two main L lenses that I would like to get are the 24-105 f/4 IS and the 70-200 f/2.8 IS. Now only if I had a bit more money...

I think thats a sentiment that many of us carry Matthew :)

For houses, the 24-105 might not be wide enough. What's crazy to me is that the EF-S lenses (kit lens excepted), have near-L performance. So, if you're shooting crop body, the two lenses I'd consider in addition to the 17-40L would be the EF-S 10-22, and the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM (which is L-glass priced, alas).
For those of you lusting after the 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM but don't have the cash, if you're a prime shooter or you always tend to use a zoom at the long end, the EF 200mm f/2.8L II (http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=37&sort=7&cat=2&page=1) prime lens is about half the size and weight; it's black instead of white; and (most importantly) it's $500 cheaper. You're giving up IS and zoom capability, but from all reports you'll gain in image quality and stealthiness (hard to be stealthy with the big white beasts). :) I was tempted by it, but went for the 135 f/2L instead for the extra stop. If I want to give up the stop for the distance, I can always throw a 1.4x tc on it.

Yes , I am going to think awhile on the next lens, good point the 24-105mm
4L may not be wide enough for houses, something I did find out on the 70-200mm 2.8L Is when you add a 2x converter you still have a 5.6 at 140-400mm zoom with IS and still seems realy sharp, glad I bought this one, no regrets and getting use to the weight.

I received my 24-105mm 4L several days ago and after getting over the shock of the weight compared to my other lenses I am hooked on the L. It's focus is so quick that sometimes I don't realize its finished. The pictures are very crisp. And I love the IS. Now I'm thinking of my next L lens. I'll have to come out of retirement! UGH not going to happen.

One extra advantage of the IS versions of the 70-200mm lens is that they are weather-sealed. So even if you don't use the IS, you've got a weather-sealed lens.

Yeah but unless you're going to be shooting outdoors in the rain a lot then you might not need the weather sealing. And if you don't have a 1- series body then the camera body itself wouldn't be weather sealed.

Actually the X0D series (20D/30D, etc.) is also weather-sealed. But yeah, having a weather-sealed lens doesn't do much good unless the contact between the lens and body is also weather-sealed. [grin].
