I dunno about that, but if I recall, the Rebels were not rated for shutter durability.

My 30D is 100,000 and as the 400D is a newer camera I would expect it to be in the same range

So shutter durability is basically the life expectaqncy of the camera to an extent?
If the shutter were to fail, is it serviceable by the manufacturer or do you have to purchase a new body?

When you exceed the shutter durability, the camera of course still can be used, but the shutter speeds might not be as accurate.
You don't need to buy a new body, if I'm not wrong the manufacturer will just replace the shutter assembly.
