Here's a fun one that I called Canon support about a few months back, just have yet to send my cam in due to holidays and such. Basically if I leave the battery in then my cam drains it within 24 hours even if turned off and there is no CF card in. The guy at Canon initially said that I could clean out the battery contacts with an eraser as it could be bad contacts but that didn't do it. Also haven't tried the battery grip for it to see if that makes a difference. Anyone think I'll have any luck putting a note in that if they have to replace it or refurbish that I'll just pay for the difference to get an XTi? :)

Is it a Canon battery? I know there can be some problems if you use knock-offs. Otherwise, get it looked at or test with another battery (do you know anyone who uses the same)... some camera shops will trade, especially since they can just send it back to the manufacturer.

In any case, keep hounding the good people at Canon. Digital cameras have issues all the time, they can learn from the problems and they really aren't out much. Did you get an extended warranty when you bought the camera? I have a 3 year warranty that grants me a free cleaning annually and repairs at places all over the US.

I know I've not been much help. I've been pretty fortunate with my XT. Best of luck and I hope whatever you decide works out for you! ;)

Sounds like you may have a leaking capacitor somewhere in the camera. Should be easy enough for them to replace the circuit board in the camera and make the problem go away.

Ask for the XTi anyway, you never know...

Yes, this is a Canon Battery that came with the camera. Actually I noticed it first with my battery, and then with another person's battery that had a newish Canon that took the same battery so I know it's not that.

Update, sent cam in last week, they received it and e-mailed me last night with repair estimate at $209. wait, estimate? Crap, forgot to send the warranty info in. Faxed them that info today and called to verify, they said they received successfully and will be starting on the repair. E-mail had stated that I should be getting the cam back within 7 business days of them receiving authorization for repair. Will update when I have any more news. it does not appear that they are going for the upgrade to the XTi note that I put in the form. I'll live.

No new XTi? Oh, well. At least it's still under warranty. $209? Wow.

I put in a note inquiring about what it would cost to just upgrade to an XTi if they deemed to replace my camera with a refurbished one (which they can do as per the warranty rules). They didn't respond on that.. didn't hurt to ask though.. :)

Yay, I have my camera back in my hands today! Have not yet had a chance to play with it again as it's been a busy day but from the looks of it they have cleaned it quite nicely and the sensor looks great.
