I'm thinking of getting a Nikon D40X as my next camera - anybody have one and like/dislike it? Anybody have any shots they've taken with it?
Thanks
What camera do you have at the moment? I have a D40 and love it - none of the "improvements" are enough to make me wish I'd waited a while and paid more money for the D40x. You can compare shots from both on the Flickr camera finder (http://www.flickr.com/cameras/nikon/) (plus pretty much any other digital camera you can think of).

From the review I read, the xtra megapixels are nor worth it.
I'd rather save some more and get D80 or save the money for lenses and get D40 instead.

I have a really old(from 3-4 yrs. ago) Canon Powershot G3. It has some really bad noise issues.. it didn't used to but I think it's just because of aging.
I really want the extra megapixels.

Mega Pixles are not everything. Mostly its the quality of the lens you have. Dont take that the wrong way, Mega Pixels do matter, but not as much.

I thought more megapixels in the same size sensor would mean more noise? Example is when the manufacturer crammed 10 MP into a pocket camera. It will have much more noise than a 6MP Nikon DSLR.
Read this (http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/mpmyth.htm) and this (http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d40x.htm)
Hopefully they help, but of course the last decision is yours ;)
EDIT: The flash sync speed for 40x is slower than D40 (1/200 compared to 1/500). Don't know whether this matters to you or not.

Consumer Reports (June 2007) rated the D40 as one of the best cameras available today. But in fairness, they did not review the D40X because it came out too late for them to review. My advice, go to the camera shop, hold the cameras and see what feels comfortable, then see what your budget allows. After your purchase, don't look back.
I think it is more important that you have a camera you can afford and that you use it rather than getting too hung up about the details of which one it is. While there are differences, most people will either strongly recommend what they have or (if they are having a bad time) say they hate it. Apart from professional reviewers, how many of us take, say, a D40 and a D40x out for a day's shooting and compare the results from the two.
As mentioned, I am very happy with my D40. However, I'm not sure that my photos would be noticeably better or worse had I pitched for comparable cameras such as the entry-level Canon or Pentax offerings instead. Make your choice and then, for a while at least, follow mikem's advice and don't look back.

I just read the review on dpreview.com, and they said that there are little differences(of noise) in the D40 and D40X, so little that it's not noticeable.

I don't think that the extra $200.00 differance is worth it. I would use the extra money to buy better glass. But that's just me.
