I've been playing around with some post-processing on various photos, and ended up with something I think I like.... maybe..... sometimes...

Original (cropped to roughly match revised):
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/polimom/484947085/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/171/484947085_d6d8ee6c69.jpg" width="500" height="365" alt="Original snail" /></a>

Enhanced / photoshopped (I like it better at a larger size than this):

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/polimom/484947089/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/172/484947089_78dbf8e920.jpg" width="500" height="349" alt="Dreamsnail" /></a>

I'm curious what y'all think of it. (I'm wayyyy outside my box here...)

Hi!
I think its great, although you could have improved it by composing the photo so that the snail appears to be larger - to create more emphasis on the subject. however it looks great!

Negative... people might guess you've been playing with it ;)

Postive... vibrant colours!

Without the work you've done, it is a fairly average shot that could do with better cropping; in the new version, the colour becomes as much part of the composition as the juxtaposition of the different subjects and the result is an eye-catching work of art.

Hunh. Interesting feedback. Thank you both for looking at -- and thinking about -- it. I still haven't figured out what I think about this.

It was, as you say, an extremely uninteresting shot, and that snail gets lost in both versions. I may go play around with some deliberate composition, and see if there's any value whatsoever in remembering how I did it. The changes in color and texture were pretty surprising to me.

Thanks again, y'all, for your comments.
