Hi everyone! I recently purchased a Nikon D80 and a Nikon 50mm f/1.4 D-AF lens, but the lens didn't come with any kind of pouch or case. The end that mounts came with a translucent piece of cheap-looking plastic. Can anyone recommend a line of pouches or cases they use? Also, what about protecting the mounting end of the lens? Am I supposed to use that cheap piece of plastic? Isn't there a nicer end cap or something?

I actually don't have any problem with using the "cheap piece of plastic" on my lenses. I find that they're actually quite durable, and if you're attempting to switch lenses quickly, it's much easier to pop off and on. Assuming they haven't changed the piece of plastic since I bought my 50mm back in August or my d50 in January, I have the same end covers on two of my lenses, and I've been using them since August and January respectively without issue. They've never fallen off, and they still fit snugly.
If you want something that screws on though, you can always look for the Nikon LF-1 Rear Lens cap. They're only about $7US apiece on amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-LF-1-Rear-Lens-Caps/dp/B00005NPWJ) or your favourite camera retailer.
Hope that helps :)
