This may seem like a bit of a strange question. The lighting in my bedroom is terrible. Well, actually its great for chilling out but I would imagine that it is not so great for reviewing and editing photographs on a monitor. I was wondering if anybody had tips for lighting a computer workstation to get the best environment for editing in Photoshop?
I have become really aware of this because I recently changed monitors from an old Apple display - which was starting to make weird noises - to a crappy Dell monitor on loan from work. All of a sudden there are some weird gamma correction issues even between applications within OSX so that, when I put JPEGs onto the web, they look different (I think this is the Apple 1.8 vs 2.2 gama issue, made worse because I had to tweak the gamma to sort out the contrast of the Dell monitor).
The obvious thing to do is calibrate the monitor, but I was wondering if I should do anything about lighting / positioning ...etc. I probably want to get a desk lamp of some kind. Should I get one of those bright daylight bulbs? Or should I ditch my energy-saving bulbs and get some standard incandescent ones? Or should I get more ambient lighting (say from a standard lamp above / behind the desk?
It seems like a silly question but I figure that I might as well think about it since I will need to get some kind of additional lighting.
