I think the image is definitely improved for the processing work - you have ended up with an interesting "vintage" shot rather than a more pedestrian colour one. How did you accomplish the conversion to monochrome?

wulf, i never seem to use the same method each time i convert, but for this i used layers in PS. convert to greyscale, make 3 layers of image and adjust each one to high light or darken different parts of the image, give each layer 25% opacity, when happy flattern image, convert to rgb and add some sepia toning.

thats it roughly

hoges,

Not to suggest changing, just for curiosity: is building angled oddly on the hill? The vertical looks straight, but the horizontal under it seems to suggest level is tilted right, even though ties are right on.

Good crop. Did you try a higher-contrast b/w?

you`re right jiminy the building is on a slope, as i got closer the more apprent the angle was which upset the balnce.

Really like the B&W conversion and the closer crop. I can picture a small boy walking down those tracks wearing coveralls and kicking a can. Agree with Wulf about the "vintage" feel in the B&W.
