Ok, I'm saddened to say I don't think I have the original, but it was kinda washed out, just a pic I took out of the car window at a red light downtown. I duplicated the layer and turned one into an overlay to improve saturation, I also used the auto color correct. Then I attempted a lomo effect with a plug in for the gimp. Keep in mind I've only been working on photo editing for a little over 24 hours. Any ideas on how to improve? Also how can I get rid of the purple discoloration in the lower right hand corner?

would have been helpful if you had the original image. Cant tell if the purple is from your conversion to lomo or if it is something from the original image. Anyways you should add a vignetting to it if you are going for a true lomo effect. Other than that the colors look nice.

Thanks for the comments, is adding a vignette hard to accomplish?

It is actually really easy to do the lomo effect or just add a vignetting. Here is a link (http://digital-photography-school.com/blog/how-to-make-digital-photos-look-like-lomo-photography/#more-78) to a post on the DPS Blog that has instructions on how to do the lomo effect. The first step tells you for to create a vignetting. You can create actions for the processes to cut down on future processing time.

I added a vignette, does this look a little better.

Hi, RxFotoGirl

It's a much better pic with the vignetting added. Well done.

Wow, I didn't know what "Lomo" meant until I found this thread, but it's very cool indeed...I've seen a few pictures like that in the past and also wanted to figure out how could I achieve something like this.

Funny thing is that I googled for "Lomo effect tutorial" and guess what, I ended up in the DPS site again! :D I should have known better.

Anyway, here's my first attempt, it's a picture I've taken a couple of weeks back in Florence. Since I haven't seen that many Lomo pics in the past (at least not in a systematic way), I'm not sure how far off the target I am, but I'm happy with the result nevertheless.

i like both shots....the second doesn't exactly scream lomo to me but is a nice rework!
When I think of lomo i think of the cross processed look.....

P.S.: On a second thought maybe it was not very polite to post my pictures on someone else's critique thread, I got carried away..hope you don't mind, RxFotoGirl, I'll be a better neighbor next time..

rodrigo, I went ahead and made your second image black and white, I think its much more powerful that way. What do you think?

Hi Sonique,

I think I agree with you, it makes the picture more intense, for example the textures in the wall and the shapes of the fruits.

Thanks for the tip!
