Since I started photography, majority of my photos been portraits. I finally decided to try some landscape style photos.

I have many I would love to share but for now just a couple. I will be posting the rest to my flickr account as time comes.

Somehow my favourite is the last one (even though it has a person in it) :)

I agree with Nicole. The third is kind of a combination portrait/landscape, but it's my favorite. Composition, DOF, color are all good. I feel the first has too much sky, although other than that, it's not bad. The second seems too busy, not sure what I should be looking at: the layers of rock, the swirling water, the foreground tree? Good first effort at landscapes, though.

I gotta agree here. Very nice work, except the first one. It's a great picture but should not be in portrait mode. The second one needs to be in portrait mode, Love it. The third one is awesome, very nice! Keep up the good work!:)

I actually agree to, now that I look at it more.

I did manage to take a shot of the same scene but horizontally. Big difference and I see what you guys mean.

Here is that version witch I actually like much better.

I have to agree. 3 is best with a close 2nd to the landscape version of 1. 2 is indeed too busy. I love the textures, but find it confusing. Perhaps croping part of it to focus on the textures would make an interesing abstract.

I have to agree with the others, the third shot is the best shot.
I'm not really sure that the first shot is better horizontal... The mountains seem higher and more spectacular on the vertical version.

I really like the last shot on your web page (the snowboarding action-shot).

trelaflip,

All three are impressive, and the landscape version of the mountain, very grand. If you can recall, on what did you base your horizon? From the first day, I thought, if it was just about 5 - 10 degrees left . . . tried it, it stopped looking "off." Small point.

I was going off the bottom of the mountain line how ever I don't have good eyes for keeping things straight lol Even when using the guides to help.

Thanks for every ones comments. I will be using your advice and tips for future photos.

Here is one more with I think turned out cool. I wish I could of cropped more to get rid of the trees in the lower right but then I would of cropped to much.

trelaflip,

Along with the second photo in original post, and any more that might seem too busy, this would make quite a series. Having grown up around this kind of striated gorge/stream/vegetation landscape, I like the complexities. Trees/bush, just part of the scene. Good angle here.

I actually like the very first shot tall. The only thing I would do is crop out the very top where that cloud pokes into the frame. I like tall shots and the color of the sky in contrast to the snow on the mountains looks great. The way the color of the sky goes from a light blue to a deeper blue for me atleast works very well with how the lower part of the image goes from the greens and greys into the white of the snow.
