Black and White HDR

My first attempt at HDR BW, feed back appreciated.

Settings are.... _pregamma_1_mantiuk_contrast_mapping_0.1_saturatio n_factor_0.8

I forgot to include what I did in PS, Switched to lab mode copied lightness, switched back to RGB pasted that as new layer, then duplicated the BW layer. Applied a 20 pixel Highpass and set layer to Hardlight. Then I applied a curve adjustment layer to darken the darks a bit.

What program did you use to create the HDR image?

I'm not so sure this scene actually lends it's self torwards the use of HDR. The tones in the scene could have been represented in one exposer. Was the sky overcast? It's very white. The power lines and branch comming in from the top of the frame distract from the subject which I take is the truck. Perhaps a diffrent composition could have helped with this? Maybe get closer to the truck next time. What were the fire fighters doing? Where they putting out a fire? If so definantly taking some pictures of the fire is a must :)

The first time using HDR can be tricky and knowing when to use it is the hard part. There are plenty of plugins that can do tonemapping in photoshop which may have been a better way to go with this image using just one exposer.

Thanks for the feedback, I was using Qtpfsgui for the HDR creation. For the next image I will try to incorporate what you said. Prob sometime tonight in the a.m.

Try giving photomatrix a shot there are is free trial out there you can play around with. I've heard Qtpfsgui isn't very user friendly.
