This has to be my absolute favorite picture and my firs post here. Finally thinking about taking a large print and framing it. Since there are a whole lotta new members i thought i should bring it back to the top and see if i can get any more constructive criticism / ideas on improving the shot before i print it.

Thanks!

any comments will be really encouraging! been shooting for about 2 months now! thanks!

It was a rainy day, read that you can get some really nice black and white pictures on cloudy days, so i took a break from work, when up to the terrace saw this crow soaking wet wanted to take a pic of it. Waited for it to fly and took this pic, then lomo'd it!

Shooting info:

Camera: Canon Power Shot S3IS
Shooting Mode: Auto
Tv: 1/400
Av: 3.5
Focal Length: 72.0 mm

wow - that's an interesting shot. I'm not sure what to say - can you tell us a little bit more about it and how you took it?

I really like this shot. It looks like a drawing almost. I don't have any suggestions for you, but I really like this. :)

It's very good as it is

But if there was a but, I would say that perhaps the shadows are creeping up too much, seen in small size it doesn't really do much for it.

You can try filtering different colour channels in photoshop to get very different types of black and white tones which could really do something more for this image, otherwise it really is very good as it is!

Really interesting shot. I like the b&w and the slightly eerie quality.

Yeah, um, that's gorgeous. Do you have a larger version of the image available?

1) Freehand lasso of a circle around the photo - feather 90px

2) Inverted the selection

3) Adjusted the levels by moving the center arrow to the right

4) Added a curves layer and create a slanted S.

There was a great tutorial about the lomo (http://digital-photography-school.com/blog/how-to-make-digital-photos-look-like-lomo-photography/)effect, the flickr group has been trying it out.

I love it! Would like to see the shot of the crow flying into the shot as apposedto flying out of the shot. The detail in the crow really amazes me. Looks all matted and the bird adds another layer to the creepy shot.....
I love this shot alot! The technique is what I lvoe so much.....I've got to try this!

Thanks pinball! the PP is kinda explained in the previous comments.

They say "one for sorrow" so i kinda like the bird flying out. The way i look at it is sorrow/sadness leaving...

I guess that makes sense. Wherever the bird is...nice shot!

kunaldaswani,

One of the first B/W photos on DPS I saw and liked, and wondered if it had been editted as a composite. It is just that dramatic; to imagine it is one thing, to shoot it is another. See? I had forgotten most of that first month after I joined DPS. Thanks for bringing this back. Choose your printer carefully.

I would frame and hang this shot in my home. As someone said previously, "it almost looks like a drawing". Kudos
