My first post, and on of my first shots with a Canon Ixus75. I was using the colour select mode that picks only one colour.
Im at work so its not edited however i when i crop i tend to go too far. I think it needs some work on the B&W but could be slightly more bold.

dannyrich,
Congratulations on your first post; good that you are exploring things like color select.
I attempted some compositional editing on your photo and was not successful; however, my process was fruitful because I learned why I could not do anything with it. So, here are a few ideas for you to explore and I hope they are helpful:
The contraption on the left side of the frame does not contribute much to the photo; when you compose your shot in the camera, think about what contributes strongly to your subject and your story in the photo.
Train yourself to compose in the camera and do this over and over again. Most of the time you will only have to make minor editing adjustments in post production. On those occassions when your composition didn't quite turn out like you wanted, you may be able to transform your image into a true composition...one that you didn't even anticipate.
In this case, I am unclear about what you were wanting to capture as the subject other than the sign. I think the sign alone may not have enough impact so a context is needed to support the sign.
I had some difficulty as a viewer understanding the surrounding context; so you may want to think about different perspectives and angles of a shot.
Composing a shot is much like staging a scene in a movie and you are the director.
Hope these comments truly help you. Keep shooting and read every instructional piece on DPS for which you have the time.
Best,
