Friends of mine brought up their new dog to our cottage.

I caught a few of the beagle mix out on some snow banks with my flash.

The flash was used at a 45 as not to white out the dog (dexter) with a direct flash. Took the photo with my 50mm @1.8. I am really pleased with tack sharp image (and even more with the lens).

just looking for some thoughts with regards to composition, do you like the lighting? DOF?

thanks in advance.

Adacosta,
Cute picture & cute dog. I like that the background is blurred, but I personally would have gone with a little less dof so that both eyes were in focus. I really like the lighting - I think the angle gives nice form to the dog. The eye that is in focus is nice and sharp - good catchlights. Another idea for composition would be to turn your camera horizontal and position his eyes to the right of and above the center of the photo with "dead space" to the left in the direction that he's looking, but I think your interpretation is good as well. Good job!
