No one in my family has any clue about photography, so I really need some constructive criticism.

Welcome to the forum Emi-Day. Please take a moment to review the Critque Rules (http://digital-photography-school.com/forum/showthread.php?p=96657#post96657) about posting in the critque thread. In short please include EXIF data, why you took the image, what do you think could be improved on? How you took it ect.

I really like your first image btw. Please take a moment to remove two of the images in your thread. You can edit the post by pressing the edit button at the bottom of your post on the left side.

Thank you! :)

I really like the image. I would suggest that some post processing to fix some color issues and help contrast might be useful. There are a lot of middle gray colors in your image, so adding contrast will help to make it look more interesting. Here is a play where I have increased contrast, increased the intensity of the warm colors in the grass, and removed the cool color cast from the trees and road. Let me know if it was not okay to edit:

Nice! You will gain photographic skill in a hurry! This is a great shot, and with the contrast adjustments by Kathryn, it has improved greatly though I almost miss the cold, damp, winter feel of the original. The only thing I would do to improve further is to crop the right side to remove the piece of fence leading off the frame. I would crop to the point that the very right edge of the tree is gone. (Hold a white sheet of paper against the picture and you will see what I mean.) The tree becomes the right side of the frame. The wandering road becomes the left, and the eye is drawn up and away from the bottom focusing on the bright area at the end of the road. If you want to keep the 35mm shape, you can cut the same off the bottom and loose very little, if anything. This is how it would look if you had cropped in the viewfinder before taking the original shot.

Keep up the good work. You will grow photographically quickly.

I love these pics where the first thing that comes to my mind is a painting- I love this. You are very good - I would frame this and name it, especially if it is a family homeplace !!!!! It looks like someone painted this !!!
