Looking for all kinds of advise, criticism, glaring praise... what have you. This is a photo I took just now with my Cannon PowerShot (still trying to convince the wife on the D80). There was no post-processing other than cropping for web.

So, here are some of my questions:

Would you do anything different with exposure / lighting?
What about the angle? Good, bad, too artsy? Grab more of the pump? Less?
How would you post process? Gaussian blur the background more? Would you sharpen? Bring out the shadows?
Feel free to take this image and show me what you would do as well. Thanks!

Here are the details:

Lens: 9.565 mm
Aperture: f 8
Shutter: 1/25 sec
ISO: N/A

rlarose,

I would like to comment on the angle you used. Whenever including the sky as background i like to see rich blue color/morning or evening colored background. It seems the time you shot this was an overcast day.

unevenly distributed blue color is because of PP?

May be a different angle including more of the pump would be more appealing IMO.

Hi Pala-

Thank you for the tips. I like the idea of the deep blue early morning sky for the shot. I'll have to try that out. It was an overcast afternoon when I took this (there was no post processing). Thanks again.

The composition works, but the background is a bit busy. Could you have set a wider aperture (smaller f number) so that it's more blurry and help the pump pop more?

(i ask because I don't know what camera you shot with, but from the focal length I gather it's a compact camera)

I can sure try. It was the Canon PowerShot for this one. For the background, my yard is buried in the trees, so there really aren't many clean angles.
