View Full Version : What's the trouble with Rubble?

I'm practicing with my new 50mm and need some help with this pic of my old guy, Rubble. There are a couple of issues I see:
- His white fur on his face is blown out. The sun was shining on his face, and I don't think the flash went off. Was I too close?
- I was trying to focus in on the catch lights in his eyes, but they don't look very sharp.
- His head looks oddly larger than his body.

My dogs are so tired of being my models!

rubble looks like a very patient model....:)

you weren't too close.....it's the contrast of the scene that blew his whites......a little differebnt perpective in regards to the window light and a little fill light from your flash might have evened out the scene a bit.....

your depth of field was awfully tight to catch the catchlights in both of his glorious eyes....a little smaller aperture would have allowed both eyes to be in crisp focus..

again perspective lends a hand in the proportional size of head to body,....that you'll have to toy with on your next shoot.......if his head and body are somewhere near the same plane to your camera, you mght find a more reality based head to body image....

thanks for sharing

Thanks, peeper! I'm still learning the impact aperture has. Now that you pointed it out, it makes perfect sense. I'll keep practicing!
