we drove on down to the coast for a benefit bike rally for a friend of mine....hundreds of bikes lined the lots, cheek to jowl, so there really wasn't opportunity to compose an image of just one complete bike without a lot of background clutter.....besides....i've always been enamoured with the "sweet side" of a harley.....

Exposure: 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture: f/5
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 0/2 EV
Flash: Flash did not fire

i am concerned mainly with the cropping and color saturation....did i get in too close to convey that it's a bike and a harley at that.....do the blown bits detract from the image....did that copper come out ....well....coppery?

thanks for your views....

Peeper -- Wow, chrome and glowing metal and shiny goodness with nothing else. I really like it.

For me it was quite clear that it's a bike, and I'm not enough of an afficionado to know that it was a Harley (I think you need Windrider's opinion on that one).

The color saturation seems just right to my eye, rich and coppery. The highlights are bright, but I think it adds to the feel of gleaming metal rather than being a detractor.

The crop is nice. If you have a little more room at bottom right (assuming that doesn't introduce some of the distractions you mentioned) it would be nice to see the rest of that chrome bar.

thanks for your comments, russ.....

that bar bugged me too that it was cut off.....unfortunately, there's no more room in the original for a better crop.....in fact, this image was but a shadows adjustment away from the straight out of camera assignment....

thanks again

Well if that's how good your photos look SOOC, then I'm surprised you're so good at photoshop! It really is a nice composition, and it's the kind of thing I usually don't see until I'm at home working on the computer and playing with different crops. Good eye to see it out in "nature." :)

I wish I could just keep my gear this clean, let along my motor. Excellent take in all respects.

I really like the one with the bar a lot more. If you could, do some work in Photoshop to get the exposure closer to the one without the bar.

My bikes never look that clean. Ever.

Mike.

mhusiak.....this one's just for you.....post work done with shadows/highlight in cs2.....nothing more....

Excellent post work on the second shot, Peeper. Sorry I lost track of this thread. I think you squeezed a little more of that bar into the frame and managed to keep the highlights within an acceptable range. Again, love the composition and color . . . :)
