Taken with Nikon D50, Nikkor 18-70 f/3.5-4.5. ISO400, 62mm, f/8, 1/40s.

Is that sharp enough? Is background too blurry? Any other comments?

now, that looks like a great ride....terrific expressions captured here....

i like the background being as blurry as it is.....there are a lot of distractions back there that if in focus, would take away from your main subjects and their faces.....

your subjects aren't exactly in focus, but sharp enough to tell the tale.....

if you have editing capabilities, i would consider lightening your image.....

and please, when offering an image for critique, do include the exif when possible......it goes a long way in helping to improve your work by suggestion...,.

I think the riders are sharp enough to show tons of expression in their faces. The only thing I would try is to give the photo a little more colour. The contrast between the green the riders are wearing and their orange bag can make the image look even more exciting. Good job though.

You should definitely consider cropping the top and left hand side a bit. That will pull the riders away from the centre of the picture and probably result in a stronger image. Two rules of thumb are get the subject away from the centre and give the subject room to "move" across the frame.
