Since I find myself doing a lot more indoor photography I am wondering if anyone owns the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 Lens. If so how do you like it compared to other lenses.

I really do not want to spend near $400 on a lens that I won't use.

Most of my shots lately are indoor low light shots. Figured since it's F2.8 through out the zoom range that It will be better indoors then my 17-40mm F4L.

I have the Tamron 28-75 and I'm very happy with it. It's my walk around lens that is usually on my camera. The 2.8 makes it pretty good in low light and it is quite sharp, although I've heard of people that do not get good copies. Nice that it comes with a lens hood. The only con I can think of is that it is not as wide as I'd like, but that should not be a problem for you with your 17-40. Here are some reviews:
