I took this shot about a year ago with my point and shoot S50 Canon (all auto) and found the contrasts very interesting once I down loaded it, I would value any critique on the photo in particular composition, could I crop differently or the colour balance.

Have you tried different crop versions at all? in my humble opinion the layout doesnt seem to work. Since the colors are so bold and is more of an abstract I would try cropping it mor einto a portrait crop and even tho you'd be cutting off part of his leg it would eliviate all that blank area

i think your re-edit has merit as well concerning the crop.....

the flash played off your water lily leaf to the extreme....the green is almost overpowering...leaving your subject a little in the outfield....

was there any post work done to this image?

I may have added a little extra saturation (a habit I need to get out of), although I can't now remember. There was also a large glass wndow behind the subject which I'm sure added extra light.

Appreciating all the comments, it's really helping me think about my photo's a little more.

Thank you.

richb14,

In the interest of options, another view comes from your title, and the use of flash. This crop and vignette still says "frog in water" in a closer view, less lily pad:
