I have only gotten negative comments thus far on this photo and I rather like it. Was wondering what exactly is wrong with it? I realize I did a pretty sloppy PS job but aside from that.

Critique please?

It is okay but it looks more like a snapshot rather than anything more memorable - lots of competing elements rather than one which is obviously the subject. From the title, I guess you were thinking of the brick building but that seems rather randomly stuck over on the left side of the picture (and at a slant as well). The eye is more drawn by the brighter snow in the foreground and the sun flare on the top right.

What was the view like a few steps to the right? From there, you would probably have the sun illuminating the side of the building rather than leaving the structure in the shade.

falafelicious,

More importantly, what about it do you like? Why did you see this and think, I want to remember this?

Looks like a morning sun to me, opposed to a late afternoon sun. But the properties in Flickr state 2:20 PM. Is the date in the camera set right? Doesn't look like that time at all to me. The sun seems way too low to me, more like 9 am or something.

I see water behind and to the left a bit. If that is a frozen pond or something there, moving right like Wulf said, and take the shot at the opposite time of day with the frozen pond and with the sun behind you would be great. Or at least, the sun wouldn't be in the shot moved over at the same time of day and the side of the shelter would be lit up.

Your other photos on your Flickr are very nice.

My camera is set right. I'm in Finland so the sun sets pretty early here, around 3pm :)

Thank you for the suggestions!

I'd like to have seen it shot a little lower and with a 14mm. I agree with Wulf about it seeming more like a snapshot. It's definitely got interesting subjects, they just aren't coming together here. Can you go back and reshoot it with our suggestions?
