i jumped on a 2gb sandisk extreme II on cyber monday for $38 shipped and this is almost as good of a deal. Sure it's not Sandisk, but Kingston's another reliable brand. 50x writing, 2gb capacity for $37.95 shipped and if you buy it before the weekend you get an $18 rebate making the total cost $19.95 shipped. pretty hard to beat if you ask me. if anything, it'd be a good backup to have in your bag.

Purchased a 2GB Compact Flash 60x at Micro Center for $20 retail.

Could have purchased the 2GB CF 120x for $27 retail.

I've been using the 60x for awhile and have had no problems. Being that I have a Canon 10D, 60x was already more than what the camera can handle anyways so didn't feel the need to pay an extra $7 for double the speed. I'm fortunate enough to have a Micro Center location near me since their computer parts are about as inexpensive as anything online, but I can return things without paying for return shipping or restocking.

For those in the UK, www.mymemory.co.uk has some decent prices (especially their own brand stuff)

I got a 4GB CF card 133x last week for £18
And the 2GB version 5months ago for around the same price! (from the same place)

i'm always weary of no-name memory cards and prefer to stick with brand name items. not saying that name brand memory cards don't get corrupted, but i tend to trust them more to put out a quality product and the problem seems to happen less often.

There's only a couple handful of companies that make flash memory so you're pretty safe with just about any of them. At least I've never heard of any company having problems with quality issues.

Like LCD TV's, there's only a handful of manufacturers out there with a lot of re-branding. I have an Insignia (Best Buy branded) HDTV that is made by Samsung, but much cheaper than buying a Samsung TV.

Not only that, but the memory I referenced is actually a store branded memory card, much like how Ritz or Wolf camera sells store branded memory cards, but for much cheaper. With Micro Center's reputation, I don't hesitate buying any no-name products from them. For example, they have no-name brand DVD-RW Dual Layer drives in generic packaging for $30. But when you go to install it, you clearly are installing a Samsung OEM drive. The same drive with Lightscribe is $5 more.

But I hear ya on being weary of generic, no-name brand products though. I just have been a long time Micro Center customer and trust their products and customer service completely.
