I took this photo for the 52 Weeks self-portrait group on Flickr. I'm fairly happy with it, but I'm wondering if I could have framed it better and/or tweaked the lighting/color. I set up a custom white balance under a kitchen lamp with compact fluorescent bulbs. There was also natural light coming in from the window (which unfortunately got reflected on the front of the glass).

Shot with a PowerShot G2. Full EXIF data can be found here (http://flickr.com/photo_exif.gne?id=2206709864), but in general I killed the flash and turned on macro mode. The camera was set to Program mode and it selected an ISO of 50.

If you panned slightly to the left you would have got the skull at the lower right third point and wouldn't have turned JD into aD. ;)

Otherwise I like it

Thanks, Nathan! I'm thinking about reshooting this one when I get a DSLR, and I'll keep that in mind.

The white balance really bothers me, CF bulbs are such a pain. It's just really warm and green to me.

That's the other problem -- the wife painted the walls green. :) So that could be why some of the warmth/green is there. What do you feel would be the best way to fix it? Lightbox of some kind, or change the white balance in camera (or post) somehow?

Check your white balance. I think you need a custom setting for this space. Look at page 71 of your User Guide (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=222&modelid=7476#DownloadDetailAct).

That's what I did. The camera came up with this white balance all by its lonesome. But again, I've got green walls and mixed light sources, so maybe that's the problem?
