wonder if anyone would comment on this portrait? - Would love to know if composition/conversion to b/w could be improved on!

annie12,

By my eye the black and white looks good. Other more experienced members will like be able to offer you some tips about the black and white image. Your portrait appears to align with the composition rules. Eyes are clear, placed in the upper third line, closest shoulder is dropped, angle is good.

One bit of a distraction for me is what your subject is doing with her left arm.

Nice job as I see it.

I like the B&W I think you did a pretty good job converting it. Others may have more specific information about that for you. You did a great job capturing her eyes and her expression. I kind of wish she weren't scratching her cheek, my eye goes where her finger is pointing. Good Job! She looks like a fascinating lady.

Yeah - she's quite a lady - unfortunately she doesn't like having her photograph taken, so I got one chance before she saw the camera. I'm just hoping (because she dotes on me) that she'll forgive me when she sees it! So I would like to make it as good as I can.

She was playing with her earring - an explanation, not an excuse - but believe me I have seen her fiddle with more!! (LOL)

thanks for the encouragement!! Always a bonus

after looking at the original, i think you did a grand job with your gran.....

i am a big fan of dark negative space....and i believe the conversion of her skin tones translated nicely...

thanks for sharing

I would have liked a bit of a starker B&W if you get me? I do however like the background as it is. the composition is spot on too!

. . .bit of a starker B&W . .

Do you mean more contrast? tried to up it a bit but found it showed up a kind of "T" bar shine - but feel free to edit and post back. I would love to see how someone else would do it!

Thanks for the encouragement!
