Talking Butterfly Effect

I spent a good deal of time in Colorado this past summer and was fortunate enough to be able to spend a day at Maroon Bells. This is one of the products of my visit. A critique on color, contrast, and crop would be great. Anything else that comes to mind is welcome. Please be as brutal as possible.

There is too much going on in this shot for me. Maybe make the butterfly more prominent by cropping it. As it is right now, that big branch/root is attracting most of my attention.

Agreed, for me the (beautiful) butterfly needs to be centre of attention (although not necessarily centre of the picture). I can't quite see enough detail of the butterfly itself...

Any suggestions as to how I can do that?

Just my two cents...

I would crop the shot so the butterfly is in the upper left 3rd and the diagonal line of the banks edge leads your eye diagonally through the shot.

Also if your photoshop savvy, try a mild blur on the entire shot minus a feathered radius around the butterfly.

See if you like it more then.

Hope you don't mind, but I borrowed your shot to illustrate what I meant in my earlier post.
