Default Close up on the Kitty...Thoughts?

Hi there! I'm kinda new to the forums and photography itself, and I'm looking for ways to improve my work!

This is a shot I'm rather proud of, but I know I've got a long way to go to get my skills just right!

Smokey

Cannon EOS REBEL XSi
Exposure: Not...sure??
Aperture: 5.2
ISO: 400
Flash: Yes

The cat was laying in a dark corner below the window, so I couldn't get a very good shot without the flash. In some ways I'm worried that the flash has washed it out and flattened it - but that's coming from a paranoid and untrained eye.

Please nit pick this image! What did I do well? What did I screw up on? Composition? Lighting?

Thanks in advance! Cheers!

The only thing I might suggest is to crop it a bit closer. Get rid of the dead space on the one side by its ear. Cute photo!

I have the same camera as you, and I shoot in RAW format so that I can adjust the white-balance later in editing. Canon's software will let you increase or decrease the exposure (brightness), and the white-balance adjustment options lets you pick and choose the one that is either most pleasing or most true to life (not always the same). If the white-balance on your camera was set to "Flash", you can add warmth to the shot by selecting "Shade" or "Cloudy", from the options. I hope this helps.
