Hey everyone,
This is my first critique session, so be kind. ![]() Specifically wondering if I should crop this picture or leave it as is. I was thinking of squaring from just below his nose to just below the picture on the wall. Thoughts?

I don't mind the crop I think it works pretty well here. I personally wouldn't crop off from the bottom but instead try taking a little off the top. The one area I would have chosen to approach different was the focus. Having the eyes sharp in an animal picture like this one is important to me. I would have focused on the eyes. This would draw the viewer more into the image and the selective color would have probably worked better since the eyes are sharper. If you want to have the nose sharp and in focus as well you will need to stop your aperture down and focus between the eyes and nose to have them fall within the depth of field depending on what aperture you select.
You could still shoot at F4 just focus on the eyes much of the dogs nose will probably be blurry but I think that would work as well. If you want to stop the lens down more you will need to gather more light since the dog is black I think increasing you ISO would be less then desirable. If you have a flash that can bounce I would bounce it off the celling to help with the exposure and maintain a good shutter speed. Thank you for sharing cute dog by the way Gotta love those lab mixes

Thanks for the feedback.
I'm actually a little embarrassed to say that I just snapped this quick by holding the camera near my ear when he was lying on me. Your comments should really help me when I try more of these in the future! I'll play with different crops and see how it turns out! Thanks again! Mitch |
