Default My first model...

Hello everyone! This is my buddy Sammy. I was wondering do you think the foreground or background is too distracting? And I did some minor color changes in CS4 (Camera Raw).
I really do like this picture, but that's probably because it's of my little friend. And it's too bad the only background I had for him was a laundry basket! Anyway here is the EXIF...

Device: Nikon D3000
Lens: 55-200mm F/4-5.6G
Focal Length: 78mm
Focus Mode: Manual
AF-Area Mode: Single
Aperture: F/8
Shutter Speed: 1/2.5s
Exposure Mode: Aperture Priority
Metering: Matrix
ISO Sensitivity: ISO 200

Sammy

Very nice light on Sammy, and a very sharp photo (especially considering the fairly long shutter speed).

To me, the background is distracting. If the aperture was opened up a bit more, then the basket would've been further minimized.

On the foreground, I can't make up my mind whether or not I think it's distracting. On the one hand, the color of the collar matches the pattern in the foreground. On the other hand, the pattern itself is a bit too busy to my eye. Sorry to be indecisive.

Good work.

LOL Chip! I'm feeling the same way. I'm learning more and more everyday! I thought the same about the foreground, maybe a B&W would make it a little less distracting.. Thanks for your reply and tips!
BTW the light is coming from the TV, heh.

I don't find the foreground distracting but some clean up on the background wouldn't hurt.
