Default The Princess

I was trying to get a nice portrait of Zephyr, the Princess of our household. I'd like to know your opinion of this. Do you like black and white? Does the vignette work? Is the shrub in the background too distracting? The color version of this and a few other shots are at the web site below.

Thanks for looking.

I think the vignette is too dark. Unless you were going for the "spying through the peephole" effect. It looks like this was a sunny day And because of this the lighting is pretty harsh creating deep shadow on much of her face. This light isn't flattering to the dog's eyes, leaving them deeply shadowed and making it look like she has no pupil. I think you'd have better results with these shots on a cloudy day. In the b&w version I'm not bothered by the shrub at all.

Too dark....okay, I'll buy that. I am finding photography black dogs to be extremely difficult. You're right, the sun creates shadows. Of course, it now will be next spring before I get a beautiful day for outdoor photos like this, but I will try again. Thanks for the help.
