I like the way the light looks on the web. The spider needs to be sharper, did you have a tripod? It can be hard to get these without one as the slightest shift in where you are in relation to the subject when shooting close up will shift your focal plane. I would also try a shot with flash to see how it looks.

One reason your web shows up good in this shot is the way the light is hitting it, from behind and to the right, which makes it show up well. A tripod will help you out a lot with stuff like this but till then, as Paul said, keep clicking and expirement a lot. The nice thing about digital is if it does not work you did not pay to have it developed.
On stuff like this where it would be nice to get a bit of fill light on the spider you can also try to reflect some light back at the spider from this side with a piece of white foamcore or something reflective like a mirror. |
