New to this forum and to photography in general. Any suggestions on improving this photo?

My main suggestion for future photos would be to try to get the eyes in focus. While the dog's nose is sharp, the eyes are slightly out of focus. Also, the background seems distracting because the colours are so close to those in the dog's fur. So you could try to set future shots against other backgrounds (e.g. grass, sky, etc).

The background is nicely blurred to keep the eye on the subject and appears that you have a great little model, so I'd say keep playing around with taking pictures of him/her.
