Good shot, the lighting is nice. I would crop tighter on the dog and ball. Have you tried it as a black and white, it might look really cool like that. Next time you may also want to get lower more on the dogs level. I think that makes a nicer composition.

Mabal is beautiful! I have a female GSD, too . . . so I may be just a bit biased.
![]() My take on this photo is a bit different, though. I think it's too cluttered: dog, ball, fence, plants, etc, all in pretty sharp focus. I recommend re-shooting and trying to eliminate all but Mabel and a nice, uniform background. And if you have a dSLR, use a wide aperture (small f number) so that the background is nicely blurred. I do agree that getting down to her level would likely help, too. While the lighting isn't bad, part sun/part shade light like this makes things tough. Taking photos of pets isn't that easy. They sure don't cooperate as much as we'd like. But with some patience and practice, it can be done! I look forward to seeing more of Mabel.

Thanks for the feedback I do agree a lower angle would have been better. We were just playing ball and she sat for a minute. I clicked it real fast. I really wasn't setting up any poses. Yes, the background is busy. If I was to take the time for a portrait, I would've placed her different. And I definitely agree, a wider opening would've been a nicer shot.
I have two other dogs, but you will see more of Mabal. Thanks again. |
