Default closeup snake

This is my first post, so i hope i haven't done anything wrong....I shot this on the way home. i have been wanting to get a picture of a rattlesnake, but unfortunately he would not coil up like i wanted him to, and i just couldn't yank him up like i would my kids and make him pose right!!!

i have a nikon d40 and of course used my 300mm lense. no flash.

No this is no good! Go back out right now and smack it on the head a couple of times! It will coil up! Just kidding! This is a great shot!

Hi Tiffany, and welcome to the DPS family. I love your shot, but I am afraid 300mm would be no good for me. I would need 1000!!! Great shot and I look forward to many more from you. Just keep em coming. God bless. PAUL

One thing I noticed is I wish there was a little less blur. Without knowing your exif its hard to say what you were going for. Or maybe just a tiny bit of crop to get rid of the bright area right above it. Leave the more of the snake in the frame

I am sure you were focusing on the head which for me you were WAY TOOO CLOSE. But the only snakes I like are on boots.

That being said, great courage and great shot.

A wider aperture would have given better detail on the entire body of the snake which would have been nice.

Thanks for the comments.i was focusing on the head but in this situation, i just got what i could get and get away, i did have my 300 so i wasn't too close. I was still alittle nervous taking it. I cropped this one, it did have the body, but i like the close up of his face and the detail in the gravel. If i come across another one i will be sure to get the entire body all in focus. I didn't feel like i needed to be checking my settings while he was checking me out.... i didnt trust him.... lol

Nice, but i guess a change in angle could have produced better results, anyways, good job..
