Hi, Andy -

My suggestions would be to:

1) crop off the top third or so - that part of the photo doesn't add much to the photo, and distracts the viewer from the subject.

2) sharpening a little bit or a high pass filter might help, too.

If you can re-shoot, try getting a photo from a 45 degree angle or so, and try to get the subject in better light, as opposed to what looks like fairly deep shade.

My 2 cents.

I have to ask about the animal's face/eyes. I honestly can't figure out what I'm looking at. Can you explain what I'm seeing, please? Is it natural or done in post? Thanks.

you are actually seeing the real face, he is just one ugly dude. I did some wiki'ing and it turns out its a Piebald drake. Thank you for your input ill give "shooting" (no pun intended) this duck another shot this weekend in some brighter light.

Thanks - Andy

I actually like the composition, though I have a leaning towards that kind of look...might not be everyone's cup of tea.

the beak is awesome however. its like a miniature head of its own! great stuff.
