Default Bighorn Sheep along I-84

These sheep roam the area in Oregon along I-84, approximately between mileposts 112 and 123. I won't tell you what I had to do to get close enough to him to zoom in with my lens all the way out to 300mm.

I don't usually do wildlife photography, but this opportunity presented itself. I'd like your general comments about composition, crop, and anything else you think is pertinent to the discussion. As always, thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions.

EXIF:
Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi
Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/800)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 300 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: Off, Did not fire

Nice shot! I like it alot.

The only thing i would try, is maybe a contrast adjustment using layers. It will darken the sunny side and lighten the shadow side a little bit, and then maybe crop a little of the top off. I like the big rock, but there is alot of extra room above it.

Awesome shot!

Default Nice capture

I like this capture. I've been shooting Dall Sheep in Denali National Park Alaska all summer and they are so much fun. They get the best expressions when they are eating and just looking around curiously. I think you capture the expression of, "what's that." I like how you captured his gaze straight at you. I think the background is somewhat distracting because of the hazy look of the grass so maybe play with cropping. I'm not sure what you're sharpness is set at but play with bumping that up and you might get a bit more detail on him. In the future look for them eating on grass they get the most akward expressions... Nice post thanks for sharing!

I love it. I've driven I-84 often and never saw any bighorns. Nice capture.

I would agree with Prime Time to take a little off the top...otherwise, great shot.

what i wouldn't give to see one of these by the side of the road.....in mississipi, the most i can hope for are deer.....or dead armadillos.......

i really like how your hillside grass turned out......the way it waves to the left gives me the sense of a constant breeze......and the "pose" of your subject couldn't be more perfect.....

the over all exposure is a bit bright.......but, any less so and your sheep would lose all the details in the shadowed side.....and it does seem just a tad soft.....

all in all, an image you should be proud of.....
