Default The Green Machine (Its a cocoon?)

Alright guys, I just recently could afford a "good" camera (and by good i mean it isnt a P&S,...) and started taking pictures, but i feel they are all sorta, bleh.

I wanted help with this one. The original shot was very dark, i had the Fs at f/12 or something i guess? or maybe shutterspeed too fast, cause it came out WAY dark. It was also shot in JPEG (I think), so that made Post work hard... I brightened it up in post and made the cocoon sharper by a bit. (using Lightroom2 mostly).

Wanted to know if this looks alright, or if adding stronger vignettes, or possibly darkening the background further would make this a nicer shot.

Thanks in advance Ill be back tomorrow for any responses

You think so? thats great to hear was afraid maybe"I" thought it was alright, because I shot it, but in reality its extremely sub-par or something of the sort.

I still think it can be improved in some way, I can't believe I'd make it flawless on a first go at it, but... would be nice if it was true

Sorry, I should have explained better. I am a beginner in photography, so I think it is stupid to worry about all the little details about a picture. I really love the scene itself with the water drops on the cocoon, its just great. I like the depth of field, although maybe a deeper depth of field would have been better. I love how the colors look very real but still very vibrant.

I would really like to see this same scene but with the bug coming out of the cocoon.
