The square crop works really well for the subject, and you did a great job at filling the frame. Sharpness is also very good, especially since you stopped down to f/7.1
I would suggest a little bit more PP though. Using Levels in combination with increasing the saturation would work wonders on making this image pop. You might also try using a wider aperture (such as f/5.6) and a lower ISO to improve your bokeh (drawing attention to the cat) and removing some of the noise.

The onbly suggestion I would have for this picture is to brighten the eyes up a little bit. Youre right, the reflection of the lights in the eyes are great but they are a little dark in the upper half of the eyes. Im not a wiz in PP but I know there is a thread on this site which will take you step by step and should make those eyes pop out at you. Nicely done!

Nice shot. Sharpness is good, and nice catchlights. I would prefer the colors to be a little brighter.
