Welcome to the forums Noel. Glad that you got your picture working. And good on you for jumping in at the deep and and starting in the critique area.

The first thing that I notice here is that the shot seems really busy at the edges especially. At first I wasn't sure if the second dark spot was a reflection of the ducks or if it was a second island. Yes, I figured it out. But with all the business at the edges and very little in the middle I'm finding myself having a hard time settling on a subject. I would almost consider cropping out anything below the taller birds (sorry, not good at identifying birds). You're using a 100-400mm lens, so I'd consider zooming in more next time.

The next thing I notice is that the white balance seems off. I'm pretty sure that the white birds shouldn't be blue. You've also got some overexposed spots on the white birds, which is something to work on in the future.

I do have a question for you though. Is there any particular reason you have your camera set to high saturation, high contrast, and high sharpness? I think that it's caused a bit of loss in detail in areas. While the water is a nice bright blue, the ducks seem to blend in to their islands on my screen.

Hope that provides some help. It looks like you'll have no shortage of subjects to practice on!

Default Blue and......

This is is a little over blue but personally I guess I just like the deep colors. I have since utilized Custom Settings to gain a little "bracketing" type choice with my color, contrast and sharpness. Thanks for the time and will continue tryin'. Noel
