Default Using a 50mm prime lens for portrait

peeking

I took this with a Nikon D80 using a 50mm prime lens.
AP mode
1/30sec
F/4.0
no flash
iso 1000 (once again it did auto iso even though it is OFF in menu?? HELP) I figured out the iso auto was in the custom menu..never looked there..
I shot this with natural light from the window to the left of the puppy.

I want to know if this photo would be better in black and white? can I salvage the blown out areas with photoshop (I have cs 5.1)Crop??

This is adorable! your shutter speed seems a little low for a hand help picture but you got the eyes in focus pretty well- good job. You could just use your burn tool to darken the slightly blown areas.

Thank you. Should I try to go full manual then? I haven't been that brave yet. Just AP mode

I will try the burn tool or maybe patch tool?
