Default boxer in the snow

Just wondering what you guys think I could have done to make the shot better. I think I've almost got the hang of getting the blue tone out of the snow pics. I don't like how dark the dog is, especially his face. Any advice? I was also using a ND4 filter.

Wait until he's facing the light? And you might want to think about not featuring his "boy" parts ...

Pretty much that. The angle of the sun looks pretty good (lower in the sky), he's just looking into the dark side of the earth rather than the light. When out in the sun with my dogs, I try to keep the sun at my back and look for my shadow to point right at the dog(s). Of course, I often have to shift a bit to one side or the other to keep my shadow out of the picture but that is my general rule of thumb. Fortunately, dogs don't squint as much as people so this works pretty well.

One other thing, and you may already know this, white snow plays tricks with your cameras exposure meter. I often have to overexpose a stop or two to get proper exposure of the dog. Sometimes a little snow will get blown out but I'm ok with that if my subject looks good.

Nice pose though and good looking dog.

Thanks for the advice! I'll keep the lighting suggestion in mind!

Nice photo! I really like how she pops from the background.
