I think I like it without the whole bee in focus but if you want it all in focus, then close the aperture slightly (make the f stop number bigger). Read about depth of field online and you will see what I am talking about. I don't know much about your camera but that seems like a low ISO to me. I usually never go below 100 but tend to stay closer to 400 with my Nikon D5000. The colors don't pop to me so you could try some editing to adjust that. There are some free programs such as gimp you can use or you can try a 30 free trial of Lightroom. Anyway, this is a nice close up shot in my opinion so just keep practicing!

That is a perfect depth of field in my opinion, cause you got his baddass looking face so well and it makes you focus on it. Very cool shot you got with your point and shoot

i know this is more of a technicality, but I think thats a wasp. the wings look too slender and there are no pollen baskets. Also it has natures "threatening" colours which are red black and yellow. at a guess i'd say you have a shot of a relative of the mud dauber wasp. still, it's a fantastic shot, specially with a P&S. that cotton string on the right is a little distracting though and if i were you i would edit that out. i'm guessing you had the camera on Macro setting with auto ISO, some of the new P&S have a "HI-Auto" setting which leans towards highest cleanest ISO, otherwise you can manually adjust your ISO to 200, 400 or 800. an ISO of around 200 would be better

Yep, that's a wasp, not a bee. But who cares?

Well, I do, and it's a serious question -- should we pipe up and offer correct ID's around here, or keep tactfully silent? We're here to learn about photography, not nature .... and yet, if we propose to document a thing, perhaps we ought to learn something about it? As Joan Rivers would say, "can we talk?"

I love that photo, by the way - really do. I want a macro lens bad.
