I just got a new camera and thought I'd get back into photography after about a 24 year time out. The last time I picked up an SLR was back in the film days. Anyway, I was playing around with the new camera getting used to it and snapped a portrait of my dog. It was in auto setting while I was getting used to it but I thought it did a pretty good job picking the right settings although I would have liked a lower ISO. I also think I should have framed him a bit more to the right so he could be looking a bit more into "space" What do you think?

In particular, I was wondering about the composition as I mentioned, but any other information you may share will be greatly appreciated. When I took the picture I was noticing his content expression so I wanted to make that the main focus of the picture and why I zoomed in so much.
Would the picture have more impact if the depth of field was shorter or longer? How about the size of the subject in the shot, would it have been better to pull back a little to get more of his body in the shot? This shot doesnt have any editing done. Would it benefit fom lightening the eye area a bit? |
