Cool How's my black and white conversion?

I have realized after reading this forumn for a couple of months that black and white photography has a lot more to it than I thought. I would like to know how I did with this conversion- is it too grey or the right tone of black and white? Composition wise, does it bother you that you cannot see the rest of his body? I cropped it this way to take the attention away from the arms holding him but would like any feedback you are willing to give me! Also, please ignore the way over done vignetting here as I realize now that I went too far with it but am not around my computer to fix it at the moment hahaha.

Camera: Nikon D5000
Lens: Tameron 18-300 (not autofocus compatible)
Shutter Speed: 1/125
Aperature: f2.5
OCF: fired plus some window light
Edited in Lightroom

First, it's only been a few hours since your original post, so don't get too upset that nobody has responded.

Second, I'll offer my quick thoughts because I'm headed out the door. I think the B&W conversion is generally good, but I think that your sharpening may be a bit overdone because of what's starting to look like a halo around the dog. The composition doesn't bother me, and to a certain extent the vignetting isn't actually too bad for this particular type of shot IMO.

I think your b&w conversion is fine. I do agree with Nicole that you may want to back off a bit on the sharpening. I'm generally ok with the framing even without the whole dog. The hand provides a very nice scale, which really defines the pup and makes the whole work more than just as the sum of the parts. And while I'm not usually a big fan of vignetting, this seems to be fairly effective. So put me down as liking this one!
