I think such high ISO wasn't needed in this scene. Otherwise, you should focus on the eyes. The dog needs some "breathing room", too - you should leave some space in front of the direction where he's looking (e.g. compose his eyes in the left third of the frame).

why would you use 1/2000 shutter speed and 800 ISO? if you took down your shutterspeed you wouldn't have had to crank up the ISO.

Gotta agree on the ISO and shutter speed. I could understand it if you were shooting some action (especially with a boxer ) but a still shot like this could probably be done in the 1/250th range, thus allowing for a drop in the ISO. That said, the ISO doesn't really kill it and the noise is not that bad.

The focus does seem to be a bit soft but not sure why. Just make sure if you can see an eye, that you are focusing on it and not some other body part. Shallow DOF at times gives you little room for error so you want to be precise on where you focus. Eyes tend to be what most people look at first so those are usually a pretty safe bet.

The composition works well for me. The clutter is a bit distracting in the background. Two lines cut through the head and he has what looks like a big trash can growing out of his neck. Those are things to watch for in the viewfinder while shooting as sometimes, a simple move up or down or right or left can hide it or make it less noticeable.

Not a bad start overall.
