Default Yellowhammer

I like this shot but I can't decide whether it works(or matters) with the yellowhammer not facing into the picture? Does the other fence post make up for it?

Yellowhammer

No, turn him around Shellie.
I'd probably do a long crop down beside the larger fence post and clone out the wire even if it rules out the rule of thirds. I think if he was facing the other way the background post would still detract from the bird a bit. My 2 cents anyway fwiw!

Otherwise nice focus and good dof!

Hmmm.........thanks Bruce, I might have a play with that. I can see after a quick crop that the bird becomes much more prominent and THE subject. Cheers.

Agreed.
Plus that crop will place the bird in such a way that it IS facing into the frame.

I turned him but lost his tail!

Yellowhammer

I added the first one to my "to-do" folder in due course. Thanks both for the advice!

Shellie, you've either been waiting there for 4 days for another bird or you found a stuffed one and stuck him up on the post - ah the magic of photography

Anyway, it sure did the trick - nice work!

still think the big post on the left is distracting and narrowing the image (bird is looking right into it)..
The birdshot itself is stunning though! lovely shot and the bird is posing really nice

Yes, I tend to agree about the post, although turning the bird greatly improved things, the post is still a distraction - get a chainsaw Shellie

Chris - would you believe it's another photograph of the same bird?

Now, don't be too hard on yourself
