This shot was taken at our other home in WV in July.
I was lucky, it was very early morning and he was still not warm enough yet to move fast. He didn't even flinch when I picked him up.

AWESOME!!! huge snake lover here (proof: squamishserpents.ca)

looks like a black rat snake to me (elphae obsoleta)

actually, it may be classified as pantherophis obsoleta now, but i'm not too sure on that one.

anyways, great capture! love the sharpness of the ring around it's eye
