1) Your photo looks overexposed. In particular, the white part of the right cheek looks completely blown out.

2) Part of the bird (perhaps most of the bird, though it's hard to tell at this resolution) is out of focus or motion-blurred.

3) With the bird's head facing generally to the right, I would prefer to see more space on the right side of the photo than on the left. The current framing tends to lead my eye out of the photo.

4) The background of the photo is fairly busy and also close in color and tone to the bird's plumage. This tends to draw attention away from the bird. Try to frame the photo so that you have a simple background that contrasts well with the bird.

All things already said are true, but I know how hard it is to capture birds. I have had so many good opertunities and had the wrong settings or blurred my shots.
hawk.jpg.
Try playing with you photos in picnic a bit it. I also learned to shot in raw so that I have some exposure forgiveness. I have also brightened my lcd screen on the camera so that when I look at them in the field they are bright not over exposed looking but bright.
exposure is a tough one for me so is no blur and composition. Thats why we are here to learn improvement!

Keep shooting, and have fun with it!
