First of all: the overexposed parts on his head. That's not nice.
I'm not a pro so I can't give you professional advices but a tip: use lightroom to modify the flat colour of the water, the sun was obviously shining so it should come out really well. with the deeper and stronger colours, it would be much better.

Well, it is a picture of a hippo, but it is not particularly interesting.
You need to get a far tighter crop on the hippo to make it catch the eye.

Wildlife photographers sit for days/ weeks trying to get an interesting hippo shot, so expecting wonders on a zoo trip is a tough call.

Well, I'll throw this out there before one of the mods does:

Check the sticky (the top thread in the section) for the forum rules. It will ask you to include exif data on the shot to allow everyone to get a better sense as to what gear and settings you were using to take the shot. That will allow for more focused feedback. Also, from what I have seen/read, you will likely get better results by putting the image, rather than a link, in your post.

Thanks for the critique. I thought when it went onto Flickr it captured the settings. I am new to all of this so don't expect much positive comments at this time. I will continue to work on what I am doing. It would be nice to hear not just what I did wrong but what I did correct. Perhaps on this shot nothing was correct. I would not be surprised. I will just keep trying.
