Default Mama Sparrow

I thought you guys might be getting tired of my shots over here, so I posted a different crop of this over in the SYS section the other day, but it hasn't gotten any comments, so I'm baaaack! Hope you don't mind! I'm just learning so much, I keep wanting to put more pics up!

MamaBird

This mama & her partner have 3 (we think, we can't see inside) nestlings that they are feeding in the birdhouse about 6 feet from our glass back door. I've been waiting impatiently to get a shot of one of them & finally caught one the other morning while we were enjoying our coffee on the deck. The only PP is a crop.

How is the DOF & comp?
Anything you would change in PP?

(I gave in and ordered LR3 after trying for 2 hours to figure out 1 function in GIMP the other day. LR3 should arrive in a few days and I'm itching to get my hands on it!)

The DOF is good. The background greens look nice and the focus seems to be well on the house and bird.

If it were mine, I would experiment with a vertical crop. There are some strong vertical lines from the tree and the house and I would use those to lead the eye up and down the photo. As is, those lines seem to compete with the horizontal crop. It would be a tighter crop too which I think would bring more attention to the bird. He is giving you a pretty sweet pose.

I might also bring up the exposure a bit. The whites of the house look somewhat gray.

Overall though, I think the shot has some nice potential.
